82 spider with carb?

Post by nickc »

Hi, I just joined your club. I am looking to buy a spider. I saw a 1982 with a carb.; as far as I know, carbs went out in 1980. Does anyone know if Fiat still produced a carb version in 1982? Maybe a european version?
Thanks. I look forward to exchanging some great info on this site.

Nope no carbs on 82s I found out that I have one of the last models produced with a carb on it and I have a 1980. SO, some 1980's are carb'ed some are FI'ed nothing 1981 and after came that way from the factory. Although this wouldn't be the first fiat that was tinkered with by the previous owner. Chances are that the following happened:
FI system croaks. Owner removes and replaces with cheaper easier to work with Carb system.

My 81 Turbo Spider has a carb...obviously put on by a previous idiot, um, owner. Not that a carb is bad, but it's an ADHA. I guess that gives us amateur grease monkeys something to do, right?

Thanks for your input. That's what I always understood, but this guy insists that it's the original engine and he bought it from the original owner. The car looks nice and I don't mind the carb, but, now I can't trust anything that this guy says.

Well, at least this carb is a Weber 34IDF, could be worse.

maybe it's not really a 1982! lol. Original engine doesn't necessarily mean original intake system does it? maybe it's the original block....

I don't know the specific VIN number translations for the FIATs, but I figure someone here does. Get the VIN and let's have at it....

this won't help with verifying carb v. FI, but post that VIN and I think I have found enough info rto decifer most of it.

F (Means Fiat--can mean others too) (2)
AAS00B (allocated to the manufacturer) (3-8)
