Steering rebuild help

Post by Rotoariesarecool »

Hey, So I'm rebuilding all my steering (excluding the gearbox) and I'm havin some troubles. First off what is the torque on the center link?

Secondly I got tie rod ends from Autoricambi but I'm a little confused, I got from them 4 very slightly different ones; 3 are black, 1 is silver; 2 have almost negligibly different necks, etc. I'm guessing they are effectively the same but just wanna make sure.

Third; the old ends are stuck in the sleeve any tips for getting these out?

Center steering nyloc nuts can get torqued to 25 ft lbs. if you can manage to get a torque wrench on it. There should be two RH and LH thread tie rod ends, try removing as much surface rust from the gap in the sleeve and spray PB blaster or WD40 on the old tie rod ends in the sleeve and try to loosen them. If their really stuck in, the sleeve might distort when trying to get them out. When removing the tie rod ends, take photos to references the threads when installing the new ends so you can drive it to the alignment shop without dying.

I was either lucky, or this is a good way to start:
When I took the Tie rods ends off; use this tool: https://www.harborfreight.com/automotiv ... 99849.html
they pop pretty load. loosen the lock nut, but leave on ( a few threads)

When both ends removed, I just measured the lengths and matched (I did buy the entire tie rod; 2 ends and the sleeve).
alignment not greatly changed from before; check it aligned anyway.
