Alquati vs "regular" dual carb intake

Post by MykeNytemare »

Hello all,

As I really want to add dual Weber's to my car at some point, I was wondering if there are any major differences other than runner length between the two intakes? Can the same carbs be swapped between intakes or do any of the linkage pieces needs to be modified? Are there any clearance issues? Is there anything that should sway my decision towards one intake style or the other?

I did use the search function and didn't find anything directly addressing this, so if I missed it please feel free to yell at me and redirect me to the appropriate thread!

The Alquati's are an "offset" style manifold that will allow the use of a block mounted distributor, whereas the stock OE 2 x IDF manifold requires the distributor moved to the cam drive position, as the stock block mount distributor won't fit.

OE manifolds come as two types, one to suit 40IDF and another much rarer and far more expensive to purchase manifold to suit 2 x 44IDF.

Both OE and genuine Alquati manifolds fit very well and carb / port match ups are generally quite good. The Alquati's have been copied and the copies / repros well lets just say that they don't match the quality of the originals, and in some cases is quite ordinary in terms of port match and finish.

The straight run of the port offered by the OE manifold flows best...the offset design of the alquati flows slightly less. OE 40IDF manifolds can be modified and ported to suit 44IDF's but takes a bit of work, it's not just enlarging the holes where the carbs sit.

Besides enlarging/ porting/matching, what else is needed to use the oe 40idf manifold with 44s if one needs them for a performance engine?
