Weber 32 adfa accelerator diaphragm replacement

Post by Zoofly »

I am having problems starting my car if it sits more than 12 hours. It cranks and cranks, sometimes it will eventually fire and other times I drain the battery trying. Now I spray some starting fluid down the carb and it fires right up and will not have a problem starting for the rest of the day when running errands, etc. I've been told the accelerator diaphragm could be leaking so I ordered the part from Italy. My question, is it difficult to change with the carb on the car? And if I'm looking at the diagram correctly is the accelerator pump to the left of the solenoid? Thanks!

No and yes.
I love these simple questions. I think you've diagnosed the problem correctly. You could bought a Weber rebuild kit from NAPA and saved some time.

Thanks, Peter. Yeah I over-researched that part, but believe it or not it was cheaper to buy it and ship it from Italy than buying the re-build kit. As you said, I didn't save on time however. :)

Your dealing with 40+ years old carb. To do a rally good rebuild you have to replace everything including the shaft bearing and seals. A real bag of worms. and your still going to have a 40 years old carb.
Call the guys at Redline Carburetors. I went with a 32/36 DFEV. There is a bit of work on the throttle linkage but it did fit pretty good on my 75 spider. I added a 1" spacer below the carb to better line up the throttle linkage at the carb. It came jetted to the 1800 I have and seems to run great. (not a lot of hours on the engine as I'm still doing the interior.)
If you go that route I can show you the mods I made to the linkage .
