I am in the middle of restoring my 1969 Fiat Spider. I am upgrading a few things but also trying to keep other things original. I got the hood switch for the under hood lights, but I don't know where to properly mount it. Can someone with this switch in their car take a picture?

Here is the current progress on my car:

I will make an effort to clean everything once it is all sorted and working. I am looking forward to driving it again soon.

the car that i took that switch off for you had it mounted between voltage reg and master cylinder res..... now i cannot confirm that was the factory location, but it was welded to the seam of the fender and the inner wheel well..... donor car was so rusty, that bracket came off without a fight!!!! good luck. let me know if you need anything else off this hulk...... riverdadd

I have seen that one - was hoping to see where the hood close sensor sat. I controls when the the lights in the compartment turn on. I don't see it in that picture. Thanks thought. I know it is the highest price ever paid for a Fiat 124 Spider for that baby.

There appears to be a push button device just above the horns in your in-progress picture could that be it? Personally I would have just used a more common alarm system switch or a light with a switch built into it that automatically turns on when its not sitting near to horizontal.

That button is the fast idle bypass switch - it is useless in my car since I now have Weber IDF 40s. I may go the more modern route, but I like the retro idea and a board member got me the old switch, but it is not clear where to mount it (I know where the wires are, but that still gives me about 6" leeway).

I have a couple of pics of my 68 engine bay. Little white switch up on the triangle peice towards the cowl/windshield. You seem to have rubber stoppers there.

Dan that is great. I notice some things different already. First you have an electric fan setup - I think my car originally had the clutch fan, but that was replaced with a fixed fan mounted on the water pump pulley.

I also see you have a single reservoir for your brake fluid vs. the dual setup in my car.

Do you have any idea how the lights for the engine compartment turn on? I believe there is supposed to be a hood switch near the brake fluid reservoir, but I do not see it on your car.

Now I see the switch you mention. I have to see if I have that somewhere or can move one of the rubber stoppers.

Glad you saw the little white switch, that's where it is on mine and I never moved it so I think that's where Fiat put it in 68.
As for the fan it's the original clutch fan, not electric. When I got the car, it was overheating, although the clutch fan was working as it should there was a problem with the wiring telling it to work (lock). My Fiat mechanic tightened the bolts to lock it on (always spinning) and warned me that it would be harder on the water pump. That was 15 years (70.000 miles) ago. Still the same water pump! I think what you a seeing is the fan shroud/funnel. It is a 2 piece unit that directs the air and I guess protects the fan.
It doesn't show but brake reservoir is a dual, got rid of the original single one. Think it was from an X19. Also from an X19 is the electronic distributor. Makes driving in the rain much better than the original points setup.
I have kept the old stuff in a bag in case I ever sell to a purist, but to me the dist and brakes had to be upgraded. Good luck with your 69 and anything I can do to help, let me know.
Cheers

I don't have a shroud on mine, but I guess I can source one of the originals or remove the fan from my water pump and add an electric setup. It should not be that hard to get some sheet metal and rivet a modern fan to that and hook it up to sensor. I have used the AutoCool Guy stuff on another car:
