Cannot find reverse

On my 79 Pininfarina i cannot seem to get my trans to shift/find reverse? 1st through 5th engage perfectly, but for whatever reason I cannot shift or find reverse. Any reason or remedy to this? Thank you!

you need to either pull up or push down in order to get past lock out mechanism. on my 76 i have to push down while in neutral and then i can select reverse

From the neutral position, push down, swing right and pull back, all in one smooth motion. Don't force or try to make the shifter do anything it doesn't want to do naturally. It can be a little tricky, until you get used to it.
