Trunk Light

First let me say that while I do have the manual and wiring diagram, I am horrible at this.

I bought a new trunk light from Auto Ricambi but it will not come on. I want to jump right to changing the fuse, however, the manual syas its fuse "H" and it's 8 amps. Why does the manual show several items, e.g., trunk light, right tail light, Flasher, etc. ALL as fuse "H"? That can't be correct, can it?

Wiring diagrams for your car are here: http://fiat.artigue.com/wp-content/uplo ... ider_C.pdf Sheet 3 shows the trunk light and yes it is fed from fuse 8 / H which indeed does feed a lot of stuff.

Count all the electrical items in your car such as light bulbs, etc. You'd need much more than 10 fuses if each had their own fuse. Remember the fuse is there to protect the wiring in the circuit not the light bulb or other devices.

Have you checked to see if you have power to the socket when the lights are ON? The trunk light only comes on with the lights and stays on even when the trunk lid is closed.

Hope I'm not over simplifying this, but in case you didn't know.
The headlight switch has to be 'on', in order for the trunk light to come on. Fiat thinking: why would you need a trunk light in the daytime?

Thank you to everyone. It was the fuse, thought it didn't look burnt out, it actually was. Also, I didn't realize the lights had to be on in order for the trunk light to be on (now that's odd). Thanks again.

FWIW, this ridiculous system of the trunk light on all the time that the driving lights are on may explain a lot of fuses blowing immediately when lights are turned on. This trunk light wire (single wire comes into the trunk from the well, driver's side, just behind the seat) is generally ignored, and a short to ground would be easily overlooked, causing the circuit to blow constantly.
