1979 heater control valve replacement
My heater valve on my 79 2000 started leaking. Got, the new style replacement from AR. Has anyone figured out a way to open and close it, hopefully with the original lever and cable? It is spring loaded and the only thing I have come up with is to try and reach up to it and stick a wedge into it.

The cable housing is secured under the dash and the console lever pulls the cable which pulls the tab lever on the valve.
I'll bet a photo would help.

Yes, it would help. The original valve had a mounting point for the cable added to it. The new style does not have this and wondering what solution people had for it's operation.

This is what the two in my spares box look like. The cable is held down by the clip (bolt hole but no clip on one) and the loop on the end of the cable moves the lever.
I don't remember who I got them from (what vendor). I think I bought one for my 80 FI car and one came in spares with the 78.

This is what the original style (maybe even the actual original valve) in my 78 looks like.

Yes, my 79 has the same valve. Would you be willing to sell the valve with the cable clip on it? That is my problem with the one that I got from AR. It has nowhere to attach the cable to it.

I got my valve from AR and there was indeed a place to attach the clip. It's been a couple years since I replaced my valve, and I seem to remember having to re-use the clip & screw from the old valve, but there was most definitely a tapped hole for the screw. These (clip & screw) could probably be purchased from the hardware department at Ace Hardware or Lowes. If your valve is different, call them at AR and have them talk you through it, or swap you for a different valve.
