My Dad's 1971 original self-imported spider

Hello all. I am brand new to the forum. I recently inherited my Dad's 1971 spider that he bought new in Italy and self-imported back to the States. The car has about 60,000 miles on it. It has been sitting in a heated garage un-started for 20 years. I jacked it up and replaced the tires. There is very little rust.

The car is in Burlington Vermont and I am outside of Philadelphia. I have spoken to a very well-known Italian car (Ferrari) restorer that I know and trust who has taken a look at it and is game to take the project, but he is pricey.

Does anyone know a good, trustworthy mechanic in Vermont or near Philadelphia who specializes in 124s and isn't in the Ferrari price range? Thanks in advance.

[Note: In the past few months, there have been numerous complaints regarding the performance of Photobucket.]

And here is a link to a map of Spider owner’s locations. Many forum members have listed their locations.

Great family heirloom, treasure it!

There is no such thing as a cheap restoration (if done right) but Ferrari money should not be a consideration IMHO. These are simple cars especially early carb, non smog laden models and any qualified restoration shop/service should be able to handle it.

You will also gain invaluable knowledge right here on this forum. Autoricambi and Allison Automotive as well as Vicks and Midwest Bayless have just about all the parts you need and the prices are relatively reasonable for an Italian sports car.

I look forward to hearing and seeing pics of your journey. Best of luck!
