So trying to get my transmission back together and am not sure how to proceed. The input shaft seal...from what I'm reading, the closed side should be facing out of the back of the bell housing, correct? I think whoever worked on this thing in the past had it in there backwards. I plan on getting a piece of wood and tapping it into place until it's flush. Does that sound right?
Thanks

Re: Insput shaft seal
I want to say that the spring lip side of the seal faces the transmission, but not sure. Normally that side faces whatever you're trying to keep in. My factory transmission manual is very vague on this point.

That makes sense, but yeah, as you said, the manual is vague. And the drawings don't help clear up the matter. I want to say that the spring side will be exposed until I put the bell housing back on the transmission, but want to be sure.

spring side of oil seal is supposed to be exposed until you bolt bellhousing to gearbox

Oil seals, spring always faces the oil. It's that simple.

Yup, got it all back together and it's running great. Will check for leaks and make sure everything stays tight. Thanks for the help!
