Fiat 124 Coupe steering wheel assembly in spider?

Will the steering wheel assembly from a 124 coupe work in a '79 spider. I like the factory lower panel and think it would be a clean way to add additional switches close to the driver. Has anyone tried this swap and if so, will my spider steering wheel bolt on and does the lower panel get in the way? I don't know how the two cars driver seating positions compare.

You definitely sit more upright in the Coupe.

Would it be in the way of the drivers knees if mounted in a spider?

The turn signal mechanism (which is attached to the columl switch, which can be swapped) changed around 1972, so if steering wheels are swapped between an early and a later car then the turn signal cancelling won't work.

Ok, coming at this from another angle. How is the coupe steering column lower plate attached? Maybe I could fabricate one.
