crazy idle problem!

Post by Nikkum »

Dear All,
2000 FI Pininfarina, UK. Rough idle at 900. Idle surges to 2000 when car warms up. When I blip the throttle the engine runs real sweet then revs drop and near stalls/cuts out every time.
Has Allinson ignition with new plugs. Working fuel pump with new filter. new working fuel injectors with no leaks. new temp sensor at T. new and set throttle position sensor. new cold start valve. AFM seems ok on multi meter criteria/plate not sticking. Ive cleaned the ground connections on plenum and aft of exhaust cam cover. I thought was Auxiliary air regulator but this appears to be closed at high temp then I get the gap visible at cold. There is voltage to AAR when car run.
I have used carb cleaner/party smoke and bubble bath looking for vacuum leaks (found leak with carb cleaner on intake cam cover which I have resolved with new gaskets for cam covers and plenum).
Almost giving up and taking it to a garage which I consider defeat!!!!
(havnt checked the FPR but cant believe this would be prob.)

Any final ideas?
V grateful for advice from anywhere in the World.
Nick

if you have a rough idle pull the injector wires one at a time to determine if one cylinder is the culprit

Thanks Mark you were spot on! I ran engine this morning and for the first time since putting a new cold start injector on 2 months ago, there was a large petrol leak from the input so tightened clamp and resolved. Information gained was the fuel pressure is probably ok.
I sprayed some carb cleaner around the injectors before I tried removing the wires and guess what they were all leaking to some degree! Ive tightened the clamps (they were tight when I put units on but obviously should have been tightened again after a bit of driving etc) and she is so smooth idling perfectly at 6 or 700 even. Ive reset the idle and TPS and all is cushty.
I am very grateful indeed for your help!!
regards
Nick
