Switching Back to Points and Condenser - What's involved?
The PO installed a solid state ignitiion in my '69 124 spider and my mechanic said that my particular engine (which he competently rebuilt) would run better with the original style ignition. I have never looked at what an electronic ignition system is composed of. What do I need to do to revert back to the older technology?

your mechanic should come out of the dark ages. Your points-system will be about 1/4 as efficient as even a mediocre electronic system and will need attention every 6 months

I agree. If you want to keep a "stealth" appearance, I would go with a Petronix system. I'm pretty sure they make a system for this distributor.
I've converted all my points cars to electronic ignition and have no regrets. My Citroen 2CV is still running on points but that's only because I've only had it a a couple of months and have not gotten around to buying a system. The cheapest one I've found so far is $135.

Agreed. I love lots of old school technology, but ignition systems from the 30's are not one of them.

That's what I always believed. Besides, the thought of dropping that adjustment screw into the works gives me nightmares.

Agreed re electronic. Both my 1756 Spider and my 77 competition BC coupe run 123ignition.nl units. Not cheap, but built like a battleship, easy to setup and settings can be internally changed. So far, both are working well.
