Do yourself a favor and weld...

Post by TStark »

This triangulation on the body’s panhard rod bracket.

There were only two spot welds there, with very poor penetration, that let go and that let this bracket rock itself to death. It wasn't apparent, just an occasional scrape on a bump, turned it the driveshaft rubbed on the seat belt bolt, and damage was done by the time I found it.

Likely this was already broken when I got the car three years ago, every bump had been fatiguing the remaining metal till it was cracked in three places and distorted.

These pictures are me and my friend torqueing and the bracket back to shape and welding it in best sequence for success.

Took all night, but we got the rear track within +/- 1mm of centered to the fenders.

So, next time you have the welder out, just run a bead down this triangulation on the panhard bracket, and save yourself a whole lot of mess. And safer to boot.
