Hey all
On the front wheel hubs, I have taken out the wheel bearings and was wondering if the tapered cone that the bearing rides on comes out of the hud, or is integral to it. If it comes out, how! Does it get pressed in? Looks like 2 per side (inside & outside) on the front. Any tricks?
Thanks

Hiya Pope,
That's the what you call your bearing race. Yes, it is pressed in, but it's pretty common for it to be tapped in with a outer edge matching steel pipe or socket if you don't have a press, or a shop with one handy. gotta be pretty careful though, if it gets going slanted it could be a bugger to get out to set it straight again. With enough force, it could even be mis-shaped.
Having fun, are we?

the race can be removed with a simple brass punch. There should be two notches in the hub-opposite from each other. Alternate tapping from one side to the other to remove the race. To install the new one, you'll need the proper size installer to fit the lip on the cone
