A peek under the hood of my new Fiat w/pics

Snapped a few shots last night under the hood, thought I'd share and see if I could get some input.

First up, the previous owner had the smog equipment yanked, which is a nice bonus for me. I replaced the vacuum tubing and screw he had in place with these caps. Seems like there should be more than that, though...am I missing an exposed opening somewhere?



Some more holes that look like they should be plugged...one of them simply has a screw in it, the rest are open. Sorry for poor quality, was hard to get a good shot.





Heat shield has a bolt head broken off...not sure if it's worth it to try and replace or not.



Overall, doesn't look too bad, unless someone sees something that I don't. Little bit of oil accumulated around spark plugs and under carb...going to wash it all out and see what that's all about. Going to go ahead and replace valve cover gaskets, as well, as previous owner indicated it needed to be done but didn't get around to it.

Pretty sure all of those multicolored two eared thingies nearest the firewall are electrical connections for sensors, not ports. Best to either let em be or better yet if you want to clean up remove all the sensors and replace them with the proper size metric taper plugs. You can get those at BelMetric.

Are they part of the intake manifold or a separate piece? Not real familiar with the 79 but I know it had LOTS of pollution sensors.

They are in fact vacuum ports. The ton of spaghetti hoses have long been tossed.

I agree with Arik, They are vacuum ports for the '79 twin plane intake.
I suggest change the intake to a single plane ('78 or earlier) and put on a suitable carb with a mechanical secondary. The original 28/32 ADHA is not good.
I bought a new 34ADF and put it on a '78 single plane intake. Car already had 4-2-1 exhaust. Car runs like it should. Stock cams and pistons.

I have any original parts you may need to put that back to stock. I also did the 1.8l intake and holley 5200 from a 72 2.0l Capri and don't look back. Runs very strong vs stock.

So in the meantime, while I'm still kinda learning where everything is and not ready to start any serious tinkering...what shall I do with those openings?

For what it's worth, I have both a K&N air filter and what appears to be the original saucer style....so basically, I have all three of the top three pictures here as options:

Carb looks a bit leaky, could do with a clean.
If it runs ok then leave it until you can get a better intake/carb setup. If it has issues, i can probably find my pics i took on how it should all be connected and post them. My setup was worked as stock with all the pollution stuff connected, i.e. lethargic. Runs better now, see my post above.

oh yeah, and i still use the original air cleaner setup, with new filter or course. This is the top picture in your posted link

Runs pretty good now. Misses occasionally, but overall runs fine. I wouldn't mind taking a look at the pics, though, if it's not too much trouble.

Going to try and get it cleaned up a bit this weekend or next week after kids start back at school and I have a little more time.

I was not aware of any such event. Unfortunately, I work Sunday.
