I bought an 81 automatic at an auction for $300 bucks. It cranks and the fluids look great. The soft fuel line coming out of the rail has disenegrated. Do they sell a replacement? One end looks like a compression fitting the other is a mushroom fitting that can't be removed. How can I fix this?

Midwest Bayless has a pre-cut kit with the right diameter fuel line to replace those failing lines under the hood. An Exacto knife can slide under the 'mushroom' to cut a slit in the hose (length-wise) to get those old lines off. Save the mushrooms and you can reuse them--if you use a different sized fuel line then you'll also need fuel injection hose clamps. Lastly, a heat gun works nicely to soften the new lines so that they slide over the barbs on the fuel rail and on the injectors.

Thanks, I bought some 5/16 fuel lines and i think it's the wrong size. I will check out the sites you recommend.

You can use 5/16" FI hose, but you'll have to use the clamps. I wanted to keep my installation a bit cleaner and use the mushroom caps, so the slightly smaller Euro hose was what I wanted. If you buy bulk hose be sure to carefully measure the hoses that you're replacing as it's a tight fit between the fuel rail and plenum. Too long or too short makes reinstallation a pain--the pre-cut kit makes it pretty painless.

I made the 4 of mine just a tiny bit long, a smidgeon I would say, so there is just the slightest bend in the hose and the pressure is always pushing the hose onto the fittings. 5/16 with FI hose clamps and no problems at all. If you preassemble the rail, position the clamps by rotating them so that you can get at the screw heads after the rail is installed. It lets you tighten them and have access for removal later.

Thanks guys, I ordered the kit. I put the 5/16 on and reused the mushroom caps and used clamps. Once the kit come I will replace the all. The car has been sitting for 16 years. I went to replace the starter because it wouldn't engage and when I got it out (after an hour and a half) it worked. I put it back in and it shows it has spark so now onto the fuel. I just want to see if it runs
