Stall 20 seconds after start

Post by ystephen »

So, months ago, my '77 Fiat Spider stalled on the freeway and wouldn't restart. Since then, I've installed a new Fireball electronic ignition since it tested as not working; I've replaced the old Marelli alternator (bench test indicated it was still working but the brushes were bad and the bearings going...the battery charge indicator light stopped working when the ignition switch was on which led me to get it tested) with a Bosch alternator with integral voltage regulator, and so rewired the car to bypass the voltage regulator and battery charge relay. Now, the battery charge indicator light comes on with the key in the on position and goes out when the car is running, and the car starts right up, but it runs for about 20 seconds and stalls out. Any suggestions?

Are you getting fuel? Or too much fuel? I had a problem with my carb float and needle valve. How do the plugs look?

Float bowl fuel used up in 20 seconds, not enough flow rate to replenish? Blockage in supply line, weak pump?
