Rebuilt the head

Post by fiat218 »

I have a question, I have the head from the 2.0 , it been port and polish he said, so I assuming that is complete,I really don't have a clue, but any ways I need the valves in, so do I just tell the guy that I need the valves put in or is there other things I need to say, yes I know valves, springs and them tappers and valve guides, if that what it called?
I have the springs and valves,

Not sure, but I have a strategy that I use.

I printed out the microfiche from Artigue's site and take a copy of the appropriate pages with me whenever I have to discuss the car with someone.

I tell them that I'm a newbie to the car world and the microfiche allows me to point to all the appropriate parts and pieces while we discuss the work I need done. I then leave the printout and a Clymer's Manual with the shop while they have my car.

Just an FYI, if you print out the microfiche at home be prepared. ... it's a heavy job for a desktop printer.

Me thinks you ask for a 3 angle grind on the valves and the valve seats ground to match.
I believe you ask for the "installed" heights of the valves to be as close as possible. This will help in the shimming of the valves to the cams.
Now as a qualifier here, I am not a tech by any stretch but have had numerous heads "done" over the years. perhaps a tech can confirm.

The machinist said he was going to use the same shims that where on the bucket, then just grind the stems to the appropriate length, I relayed that to beek and he said no that not a good idea because it will affect the performance of the head, and so to have the machinest measure each one and try get it at 3.70mm or less, lighter the better, so I asked beek to call the guy and explain this to him, much better for him to call then have me explain when I have no idea on things :)
