Fiat Spider restoration show

Post by rjkoop »

Probably a repeat but just notice at 9pm on Velocity channel 534 on Rogers (in Canada at least) they are going to restore a Fiat Spider. Going to PVR it for sure!

Ch. 242 in the Penticton area. Watched but they were doing a bike for Kaley Humphries and a re-build on a Honda CB750. No Fiat before I hit the hay...

Haven't watched it yet but at the beginning it showed them pushing the Spider around the garage and then they started working on a Mustang 1st. I think the Spider would have been in the 2nd 1/2 of the show. I'll check it out tonight.

Too bad we don't have more videos on Spider repairs. I meant to video document my repairs but wasn't able to borrow a good enough video camera. I only minimally documented what I did and only pictures. I think I've seen a few good videos (diff seal fix and I think a front wheel bearing repair) but there wasn't a lot of them.

Also I was learning new things for each repair (timing belt/water pump, rad, suspension, etc...). So I'd need some major video editing skills to make me look like I knew what I was doing. :D One huge benefit of doing these repairs on the Spider is you gain confidence to try out some of these repairs on my other vehicles. For example, I know I need my timing belt/water pump done on my 2009 Honda Pilot (125,000 miles on original) and may consider doing it myself. In Canada you are talking upwards of $1200 for the repair!

Tx Richard, enjoyed the show.
Glad I PVRd Survivor! LOL

Here is a teaser from the show.

Spoiler alert...
This Spider was the wife's car of the owner of the Sunbeam. He was getting a new walnut dash and original Smith gauges for his car (sweet car). She was having trouble with her Spider..a sticking door, seat that wouldn't adjust and a "small" oil leak. He didn't want to spend much on her car. (Heard that before!)
Yada, yada, yada... cross member replaced, pulled the motor, metal in oil pan, head shot, cylinders hacked by previous "mechanic". They did a partial engine rebuild with all the seals replaced. The mechanic wasn't pleased doing a half-ass job but $10.000 later
...a fine running and safe Spider.
