it is hard to push the gas pedal midway, it seems to get very hard and you have to really push hard to accelerate. Any reasons why this would happen?
Thanks in advance

Re: Issue with very stiff accelerator pedal, Why?
If cable operated throttle:
rusted, bent, unlubed cable
dirty rusty ball joints on the cam tower linkage
binding pivot on the cam tower linkage
binding throttle shaft on carb
disconnect the linkage from the carb throttle ball joint and work the carb by itself, If that's Ok start working your way back towards the gas pedal, disconnecting linkage connections till you find the source of the binding. All the ball socket joints and the cam mounted pivot should be greased and the cable lubed. Never had any problem with the pedal mounts on the two nylon brackets but they can be greased too. Also make sure the carpet or sound deadening is not caught up in the gas pedal.
If early style non-cable assembly then everything above still applies except for dealing with the cable.
