What is this part for/does the car need it?

Post by valkyrcustoms »

So my car had one of these, it is broken of course.

Image

What does it do exactly?
How does it work?
What can I replace it with? (Newer replacement that isn't already 40 years old)
I don't mind having to put 2 of them on the car as I can see it's connected to a canister by the gas tank and the charcoal canister in the engine bay.

Any insight is appreciated.

alright, I'll try

being that the photo you posted is from Midwest Bayless, perhaps looking at the description of the part on their website may give some insight or even sending them an email, call etc just saying

says it's a check valve fuel vapor separator

The guys at Autoricambi sell a new "fuel vapor check valve" that doesn't look quite like yours, but it might work the same. Give Csaba and Ramzi a call and ask them. I would try to keep the fuel vapor recovery elements of your emission control system intact, as it makes a big difference on how much gas smell you end up with in your garage...
