carb sync tool
I just wanted to double check that this is the correct sync tool to use for balancing twin IDF carbs, I have these on my 78...

Thanks, I was just flipping through one of your pdf publications and I noticed that you mentioned there that the SK tool is recommended over the BK as well as the Uni-Syn gauge.

That is what I own and have used on my twin 40 IDF's. Work a treat and easy to use.

My sync tool arrived in the mail, however, its not the "STE" brand that is made in Germany, grey in color.
It is a generic made in taiwan ste-sk tool, black in color with no markings on the plastic body....looks identical otherwise and it feels pretty solid. I just want to make sure that this particular tool will function correctly even though it is "generic" or a knock off. You know how it can be sometimes with tools that are knock off's of the original as far as calibration etc goes...
Anybody using this one?

That will work fine. You are just trying to be sure all the bores are flowing evenly (at the same rate) at idle. Just be sure it isn't somehow flawed and that it works consistently. Do that by measuring the flow on the same bore several times, a minute or so apart, when the engine is fully warmed and see if the reading is close to the same each time. I would be really surprised if it had a problem.

I agree. I have the STE model, available from Pelican Parts - a first class Porsche parts dealer. The absolute reading on yours may or may not be accurate, but it doesn't matter. As long as you get the same reading on both venturis, you're good to go.

Just wondering what these brass tubes are that are sticking out from the carb barrels? 90 deg bend at the top and slightly pinched off? Wondering if the carb sync tool passes overtop of these tubes?
From other weber pictures I have seen I have not noticed these tubes before...

Apparently some IDF 40 carbs don't have these. Mine do. In order to sync my carbs, I purchased a single 'velocity stack' so I could fit the gauge to the carb and clear these tubes. I used some thin weatherstripping on the bottom of the stack to form a gasket to prevent air leaks. I simply insert the gauge into the stack and hold it in place to make the measurement.

With the velocity stack, will the carb sync tool plug right in using the rubber adapter as shown in my photos, or do you need a special adapter for the velocity stack?
