idler reservoir

Post by 80spiddy »

I decided to check the fluid level in my idler reservoir. I took the top off and there is some fluid there as well as dark film of light sludge. I then wanted to take the next portion off and it just turns a bit. It's loose , but wouldn't just pull off. This is on a 1980 and says Wayass-auto on the cover. Maybe it's original. Does this in fact just pull off and the next reservoir to fill is below that?

The main reservoir is under the cap. It is a two chamber system where fluid moves from one camber to the other. Think of a circle with a metal bar dividing the chamber that rotates. I holds something like three ounces of oil.

When you say cap, I think of the first piece I pulled off that had the bolts holding it together. But, you may be referring the next level down from there I assume. That just pulls off (it has the check balls in it)? Maybe there is a seal that is causing resistance to pull off even though it rotates.

Thank you. Twisted and pulled and it finally pulled off. Full of oil. Back together.

You may find this interesting, a write up I did of the way I overhaul idler arms.

I'll be updating the details in that thread to include the seal sizes that kmoses used.
