Consul Wood

Post by Frog2Spider »

Sorry, but I've looked through a number of posts on the site, but could not fine an answer to my question.

I'm building a new wood dash and need to know if the wood on the consul can be 'successfully' removed without damaging OR removing the consul. I'd like to use the piece as a template, and then reuse the shifter boot.

I don't mind removing the entire consul, if needed to do the job right. just don't want to do it, if not necessary.

Thanks
Dave

This video shows how the replace the entire console however removing and replacing the wooden veneered insert with the shift boot is also shown. It is basically just snapped into place and needs to be pried up in from the end nearest the ash tray and then pulled back, up and off.

Thanks DieselSpider

The video suggests that the wood on the consul can be removed by prying it up with a flat screw driver.
My concern is the damage this could cause to the consul. In the video, they are replacing the consul and
damaging it is not a concern to them, so no elaboration about removing the wood is made.

Do you know how or what holds the wood panel onto the consul?

Dave.

It shows how it comes out and goes back in in the video and it just snaps into place with the video elaborating on replacing the snaps and reinstalling. Use a upholstery bar with tape on the ends to prevent marring or get a plastic bar to pry with. You will have to remove the shift knob and cover.
