Anyone remember 'Fiat Joe' in L.A. area, around 1991?

Ok, this is going back more than twenty years. There used to be this character nicknamed 'Fiat Joe'. He used to work for the LA Daily News as a single copy representative or something, often setting up shop at freeway onramps selling newspapers, with his Abarth 595 (?) parked next to him. I ran into him often at the DeSoto onramp to the 118 freeway in the Chatsworth area.
