Hi guys. Well I spent the lsat year and a half rewiring the whole underdash, repairing all the little things and finally got it on the road an running again late August. It ran sweet, paint shined up well and I didn't even seem to mind the dent in the left front fender. Thursday coming home from lower Bucks County to home, I got a small miss. 3 minutes later after the light changed I headed for the closest parking lot I could find (about 1.75 miles) and before I got there it was gone. I assumed it was electrical, stopped in the lot, checked the wires, and saw nothing. I got in the car started it and was rewarded with a ratty "VW Bug Chug" for my efforts. I revved it once and it went away, so I bee lined home and found out it was #4. and the plug was caked with very hard black carbon. I cleaned it up, put it back and ran around the block, about .75 miles. At the last 200 yards I hit a stop sign and at idle it started missing again. I cleaned it up again, ran it and at idle within 3 minutes its was missing again. the brand new Rotella oil looks like watered down rust now and the miss is permanent, accompanied with a vapor cloud of unburnt fuel. It doesn't have any of that sweet smell that antifreeze has but its acrid and burns the nose.
So. is there anyone near central bucks county, Pa that will show me how to do this, especially setting the timing, that will either work for food beer, or something. This is daunting to me and Ive read so many horror stories about screwy timing and aux shafts, and TDC 4 or 1 and spider monkeys stealing wrenches and throwing across the shop and breaking my grateful dead records. Well, use poetic license for the last one. I love this car, but 350 miles in 18 months is just unacceptable.
Franken-Spider in death throes

OK, I shouldn't type in fits of frustration over Italian things, my Wife is Italian I should be used to it, Im Irish so I apologize for the rant. I am rebuilding carb, replaced all the electrical stuff, wires rotor plugs, no cap though (cant get them right now apparently) and it runs a ton better. The old stuff was only 3 years old, dont get it, especially considering it only ran for 400 or so miles with that stuff on there. Anyhow Im still getting popping and small exhaust backfires in 2nd and 3rd gear on acceleration. I could only get a 32 ADF rebuild kit so I have to make it work on the 34 ADF.
I took compression tests and #1 was 127 psi, #2 was 126psi, #3 was 126psi and #4 was 125psi. I tested it with plugs in each cylinder and with all 4 with no plugs in at all, just to be sure there was no cross I doubt its the head or the gasket at this point, although I still may be asking for help if I cant figure it out. Or look for the smoke header over Furlong, Pa
