Headlight
Is anyone using the KC HiLiTES® - 7" Round Chrome Euro Headlights?
If not, any recommendations are welcome. I've read about the headlight relay upgrade and am thinking about doing that at some point, but was hoping to get better performance immediately by changing headlights.
Thanks!

I'm using the Cibie lenses with H4 halogen bulbs. Bright white light with excellent road coverage. And you'll need to install relays to avoid the feed going through your ignition.

Re: Headlight
I recommend Gregory Smith's relay kit. It's not invasive surgery, just plug and play.

Do the relay kit first. One thing at a time.

I've been searching online, but can't find a place where I can get the Greg Smith relay. Am I missing something obvious? Where can I get it?

Re: Headlight
try to make contact with greg through mirafiori.com
I got mine at So-Cal speed shop. Non-brand name with H4 bulb and an amber parking light similar to what Mark Allison sells.

Re: Headlight
I buy Bosch H4 lamps from a VW Bus guy...$69/pair. The bulbs have a slightly flat face which I think looks great and the pattern is quite sharp.
I can email you a picture of what the headlight relay setup looks like, if you want to construct it yourself.

Greg's headlight relays are sold by AutoRicambi. They are very well-made and the instructions to install are very simple and get to the point.

Re: Headlight
If you want to save a few on shipping its just a standard 40 amp lighting relay available at most local parts stores for around $4 along with a universal relay socket that costs another $4 or so if you walk into the store and buy off the shelf. Nothing really exotic.

Re: Headlight
My problem now would be that once I've bought them, I'm not sure what to do with them. I've searched for a step-by-step on this, but haven't had any luck so far.
I know the headlights go through the ignition so I assume this would be installed such that the headlights went through the relay not the ignition switch. I'm sure it's quite simple - with instructions.

Re: Headlight
Greg does a really good job making this kit and it comes with great installation instructions.

Re: Headlight
Don't even think about the level of difficulty. Greg's instructions tell you exactlly which color wires to disconnect from your car's wiring to match his own wiring. The kit is not generic, it was made specifically for the Spider. The bullet connectors match up with your car's connectors. Wire lengths are pre-determined so that nothing is too long nor too short. The gauge of wires are correct for the application, the crimping is professionally done and the connections are properly applied with shrink tubing. You just need to plug in its fused line to your alternator + terminal and the rest Is plug and play.dreavis wrote:My problem now would be that once I've bought them, I'm not sure what to do with them. One can always make his own kit but it adds to the time and is much less motivating.

Re: Headlight
+1 on Greg's wire lengths being perfect. This is one of the easiest jobs I've done on our Spider. I may eventually add shrink wrap at each bullet connector just for good measure.

Re: Headlight
Thanks Arik. If it's so simple even I could do it, then perhaps I should do it.
