Carb/Manifold Swap

Post by parottthead »

I am starting to work on my Spider 2000 I purchased last year. It is a Legend Turbo minus the original motor. The current motor has a 28/32 ADHA carb, although I have not been able to find the engine # to determine exactly what it is.
I am considering changing the carb and intake on the car. How much should a used single plane intake cost? I found one for $20, but that sounds awfully inexpensive.

Thanks for your input!

Brian

I am reposting this in the engine thread where it belongs!

that is a pretty good price for the manifold, but they are plentiful so there isn't a real reason for them to be expensive. Can you get a pic to make sure there isn't severe electrolysis around the coolant passages? Other than stripped threads, there shouldn't be too much wrong with it

I bought my intake for $25.00 so it is in line. Are you going to purchase a 34 ADF Carb or something different? I put the 34 ADF with 1800 intake on my 79 spider, (originally had the 28/32 ADHA Carb with stock dual plane intake), and I can notice a difference. there is more power as I wind her out thru the gears and the car seems to "breathe" easier...

good luck and have fun. :D

Thanks for the input.
I checked with Pierce Manifolds and a 34 ADFA is $465. That seems pretty pricey for a carb that I thought was pretty common. Are used ones hard to find?

that particular carb is somewhat difficult to find used. The price for the new one is, unfortunately, about the going price. Once Weber got back into production prices took a pretty good hike.

Is there a less expensive alternative I can use with the single plane manifold? I'm not able to spent $500 at a time for a weekend car no matter how much I like fiddling with it!

OK, I went back and read the article on mirafiori, and it looks like my best bet is a 32DMS or a 32ADFA. Pierce Manifold didn't have any 32 ADFA. I assume the DMS and 32 ADFA are no longer being produced? Are they readily available used?

Also, I have a friend who owns a machine shop, so I can probably get some work done for a decent price. When I get a single plane manifold is there any thing I should ask him to do to it? I'm planning on having him clean it up and bead blast it, but is it worth it to modify the ports?

I tried posting the pic of the manifold I was thinking of buying for the experts to look at, but it doesn't appear to have worked.
