Annoying minor oil leak

Post by rjkoop »

A few drips coming from around the oil filter or what I think is the low oil pressure unit.

I tightened both before but it still drips (although less now I think) when engine is running. Do I need a brass washer or something between the low oil pressure sensor and the engine? Or should I tighten it more? I just don't want to break something.

Yes, there has to be a sealing washer between the oil pressure sender and the engine.

Cool. That's probably where my leak is coming from. I'll take a look around. Maybe I forgot to put it back on. I can't remember... Can I take off the oil pressure sending unit without all the oil coming out? I'd like to remove it and bring it to a parts store to make sure I get the correct size.

Oil leaks are REALLY annoying!

I'm looking to add an oil pressure sending unit, and I also would like to know if oil needs to be drained to do that job.

For me I needed to drain it. I removed the oil pressure sending unit and the oil started coming out. My car was on the ground. I drained the oil, found a washer, used teflon tape on the threads and put it back on. Hopefully this will fix my leak.

Look carefully.
My sender leaked oil thru the body itself.

Will do. I still have a drip once in a while. Think I'll have to clean and look more closely. But I think that will wait until end of year.
