I knew I had to drill out rivets on the top. Unfortunately I also drilled out the ones for the cable at the front. I didn't know the cable loop would slide over the washered lug. What can be used as a sturdy replacement?

A solid steel rivet machined to the same profile as the original and peened back into place.
