stock wheels?
stock wheels?
Quick question, someone mentioned to me that my original steel stock wheels (currently original wore out tires with tubes on them) cannot be used with todays tires on them. is that correct? At this point I dont want to replace the wheels until I know I can get the car running, just want to change out the tires, can I put new tires on the car using the factory 1975 steel rims?
Re: stock wheels?
your wheels were made for tubeless tires, so that's not a problem. Maybe they were thinking your car was pre-radials, and the radial tires put more cornering load on the wheels. I remember some of the domestic car mfrs issued warnings when radials first came out about not putting radials on the stock wheels. I've never seen a Fiat wheel have any problems though
Re: stock wheels?
unless the guy was thinking you had run-flat tires (which require different rims) then he's all wet and you are o.k. as Mark stated.
If you are thinking of changing both rims and tires at the same time, you should strongly consider moving up to at least 14" tires/wheels. The selections of quality 13" tires are getting real slim. fewer and fewer folks are demanding 13" tires. I cannot locate performance 13" tires around here any more.

Re: stock wheels?
the discount tire near me has some 13 in Kumho tires in stock, I think I am going to go with them.
I want new wheels, but my wife keeps telling me to wait, just put some cheap tires on for now and get the thing running, then I can go wheel shopping.

I have Kumho ecstas on my car and they are a nice riding and good handling tires.I wouldnt hesitate to put them on again. They test well against much higher priced tires on tirerack.com
