74 smog pump removal
Hello all! My wife is in the midst of midlife crisis and just purchased a 1974 Spider that is in fairly good condition. I've been reading up on the car and would like to remove the smog pump (no emissions testing where we live). Now before I get too deep into it and so that it is running well in a short amount of time (gotta keep the her happy) are there any tips for the removal? Any additional items that can be removed while I'm in there? Any pictures or diagrams would be helpful. Thanks!!

It is a straightforward job, remove it, remove everything hooked to it and block off any air ports. Where the hoses meet the head you need to install short bolts as plugs, in place of those air valve things.
Keep it or offer it to a California owner who may need it.

Like Brad said, it's pretty easy.
You will need something to plug the holes in the head if you decide to remove ALL of the smog equipment.
Th EGR port that goes through the valve cover never actually enters the engine, just passes through the cover, so don't need to plug that.
Vacuum lines that run to the carb from the EGR and Smog systems need to be removed, and the carb ports capped.
Also a good time to remove the dual points set up and stick to singe points with a base timing of 10* or so.

If you decide to also remove all of the fast idle parts, there will be a few more carb ports to cap.
Once you do all that you begin to relaize there is a TON of unused wires... pretty easy to remove but time consuming, and a lot of wires are multi-purose so you need to make sure nothing else downstream will be affected.
