Hydrogen generator
Hydrogen generator
While I am pretty happy that my Spider gets 28 - 29 mpg I just couldn't stop my curiosity. So I bought a "water4gas" HHO generator to see if all the stories are true. I drive 70 miles round trip to work so finding out the results with a 10 gallon tank won't take long. I'll post the results as soon as a I get them, just wanted to start a topic and see what everybody will throw at me.
Re: Hydrogen generator
tell us about the generator, and what prompted you to buy one?

Re: Hydrogen generator
interesting, today on the way home, my carpooling buddy showed me some stuff he printed off the internet, he is going to make one this weekend.
Re: Hydrogen generator
I have done some reading on them and I still find it hard to believe that their is no corrosion or rust caused by the water or water vapor. . . I just dont think I would take the chance in a Fiat. But I am a hypocrite because I want you to try so we can see your results haha.
Re: Hydrogen generator
Nice to see people replying. Don't worry I'll keep everybody informed if this works or not, I've already spent the money, so don't anybody else do it yet. The rust problem is said to not be a factor since the hydrogen is just an augmentation, the burnt gasolene is claimed to keep the chamber and exhuast system rust free. As far as the HHO generator it is about the size of a small coffee can, I mounted it right above the fuel filter and air horn compressor, made a bracket that mounts to the air horn compressor mount bolt and extends vertical. I live on a dirt road so we will see how sturdy that is. I don't know how to post pictures, but I'll do a search and try to figure out how.
Re: Hydrogen generator
Well, I have been getting very very small positive results. After filling up 3 times I seem to only be getting about 30 mpg (got 35 mpg once?), which really isn't worth the trouble (to me), but I am still playing around with the HHO generator. Here's my evaluation on it so far. I didn't have to lean out my idle fuel/air mixture or turn down my idle and I have not rejetted my carb so how does the HHO save me gas? The answer as far as I can tell is that it did seem to give me a little more power so I don't seem to have to push the gas pedal down as far as before to maintain a certain MPH, VERY HARD TO NOTICE THOUGH. I did retard the timing to 5 tdc, I usually set it at 10 tdc (passes smog just fine) because it is rumored that you my get predetination with the HHO. Today I put the timing back at 10 tdc and moved the second HHO intake line to the top of my air cleaner. I drilled a hole in the center and installed a fitting to hopefully get more vacuum, before I just had it taped into the PCV line on the bottom of the air cleaner housing. Don't anybody worry though I still have another stock air cleaner housing. The first HHo intake line is still running to the bottom of the intake manifold where the high idle line comes from, by the brake booster line. I'll see if this makes any difference. One other thing to consider is that my HHO generator might not put out that much HHO, might work on that next.

i think he said he spent 50 to 70 bucks to buy the materials to buld one or two units. i saw it on his truck, looked pretty simple.

This was on CNN today. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tech/2 ... ideosearch
Is this the same thing? There wasn't much detail as to how this works.
