Vinyl upholstery spray paint
Does anyone know if vinyl upholstery spray paint exists for the cream/sand colored upholstery of a 1982 Spider?

The closest color that I've found is SEM Light Buckskin. Duplicolor's tan is horribly off and has an odd greenish tint.

Its very unlikely you'll match your tan with a stock color, not after years of sun and use and so forth.
As some folks know I have an unusual green interior. It was in good shape when I got it but needed freshening up. And there were no sun visors or boot.
I found a company in Toronto that claimed they could color match any vinyl. Not expecting much I sent them a small sample of my vinyl and for $100 I got 6 aerosol spray cans of dye. The match was perfect.

Here's a link to my seats after I painted with SEM Light Buckskin. Worked well for me.spidernut wrote:The closest color that I've found is SEM Light Buckskin. Duplicolor's tan is horribly off and has an odd greenish tint.

Where did that green interior come from? An anniversary dash and otherwise earlier interior. Wild looking. Your know your shift boot is on wrong?

Spidernut, You the man.... I just did the arm rests and it is darn close to the original, it's a very close match.spidernut wrote:The closest color that I've found is SEM Light Buckskin. Duplicolor's tan is horribly off and has an odd greenish tint.

I used it on my car too. The console was painted with Duplicolor and door panels were painted with SEM. Which looks better to you? Ha, ha!

Re: Vinyl upholstery spray paint
Brad,
Bought the car out of California off ebay about 5 - 6 years ago. Fell in love with it when I saw the pictures. Had it shipped back East.
The interior was as you see it though I've cleaned it up considerably. PO had little history. He bought it that way around 2000. My guess is that it might have been done south of the border. It is a really good job. Think the car was painted around then too. Must have looked nice to the new PO but he knew nothing about Spiders and mechanically it was pretty tired. He dumped about $7K into mechanics right after he bought it including a crossmember, front end and a used motor.
Somebody replaced at least the center part of the dash with the earlier insert and since the wood matchs I guess it was all switched over. I do like the simpler look though.
I basically bought the car because of the colors (the car is rust free). I get a lot of positive comments but there are some that don’t like the combo. I don’t care, to each his own.
Fill me in on the shift boot. I just re-dyed it before FFO. It doesn't have the string tie at the top. I can't remember I may have got it from one of our NJ guys. Is it backwards or something?

Is there a way to repair the faux chrome plastic strip that attaches to the middle center of the armrest? Mine just fell apart.
Possibly paint those too?

You can simply pull them out and replace them with these:
They have an economy version as well for 1/2 the price.

In one of the pictures it is on correctly - the picture showing the close up of the radio - and in other of the whole interior it is pulled up. The shift boot is installed by clamping the leather around the interior shaft ("inside out") and then it balloons outward and down. Like you have in the detail of the radio.
