front wheel bearings snap ring question

Hi All, had to change hub on Pass side. So order new hub and front wheel bearing kit from Vicks. Replaced the pass hub and moved on the driver side, which was shot. When removing old stuff from hub found a snap ring, which is not in the kit from Vick's. Are these not needed now? or I'm I taking apart the Pass side and digging out the snap ring from the shot hub?

Also putting on new rotors and Green stuff pads. Got pass side on. But driver side is being a bear. piston is pushed all the way back, pulled off packing plates, still seem a little to thick to slide over rotor. Thanks for any info. Bob

Can't help on the snap rings, as there were none on either D or P side of my 72's hubs. I have no experience with 80's at all.

I had the same issue/question with the EBC pads/new rotors. You removed both black shim plates....good. I'd suggest going back to the piston again, and making sure it's all the way in. Thought mine was, but went back when someone on the list with very sharp eyes noticed it was a little bit proud of the piston seat. Cranked it in a little bit more and everything fit; it's literally a matter of 1-2 mm. Now have 350 miles on the new green pads/rotors and zero complaints.

To my knowledge there are no snap rings. When I did mine, there were none In the kit from AR for all models there are no snap rings http://www.autoricambi.us/product/BG8-4 ... --SAVE-20/

Familiar with video however, I'm wondering if things are different for earlier models Or maybe I didn't get into the hub

They mostly help prevent you from driving the seal in too deep. Mine were missing when I repacked and replaced the seals however the new seals had outside flanges to prevent them front being driven too deep so I was not too terribly concerned since its all held together by the spindle nut. Too many mechanics won't be bothered with them and just toss them which I do not approve of. I will replace the spacer rings next time I am in there.

In the video the procedure for packing was a bit off. You really need to scrape the edge of the bearing race against your palm going all around the bearing so you can see the grease getting forced up between the rollers and into the inner race filling things up nicely other wise it was nicely done.

Personally I like to renew the silicone brake grease on the caliper slides when servicing the wheel bearings however they were so clean in the video it appears it was probably already recently done.
