Was driving in stop and go freeway traffic on a very hot day. Watched the temp gauge and it never got out of range, however, it began running rough. I drove a very short distance home, at low RPM and found coolant in #1.
Replaced the head gasket and got it running today. The old head gasket didn't look bad, and I'm wondering if the front head bolts weren't fully torqued. While I don't see coolant in the oil, there's likely some that got in there through the piston rings. I planned on changing the oil, however, I was anxious to get it running so I could... I don't know, I just wanted to see it running again and the oil looks fine.
There's a very noticeable knock, but I can't tell where it's coming from yet, and I'm afraid to let it run long. Can you listen and see if this sounds like a bearing? Can I drop the oil pan fairly easily? I assume I need to unbolt the engine mounts and lift the motor. Is that enough to get it off?

Re: Engine knock post-blown head gasket
that's not a bearing knock. It sounds like the aux shaft isn't timed correctly. Can you post a pic of the old head gasket, specifically around the #1 cylinder?

Here's the old head gasket next to the new AR head gasket

The aux shaft hole is lined up with the tensioner pivot bolt. I thought it didn't matter with an '82 anyway?

looks like seriously undertightened head
