idle shutdown

Post by quizmaster »

Hi Spiderfans

I have a Weber 32DHS fitted on a European 1600cc block, albeit still with the original CS2 US head.
The carburator being there since 2009, 8000 miles since, it has been letting me down this spring when
-I shift to neutral upon making a full stop
-never when shifting gears up- or downwards
-more frequently in the morning when it's colder... 10-15 °C
-...rather in the eveing when it's hotter 20-25 *C

Could it be that - despite this observation - it is nowhere temp related and that after 5-6 years my replacement carburator's fittings and gaskets are simply letting me down?
I've heard that lots of replacement parts are nowhere near the originals quality wise.
So I may have an airleak somewhere disturbing the idle functioning.

A second element is that I suspect that my thermostat is broken and that it takes longer than usual to reach and stay on working temperature, which would explain the higher frequency during chilly mornings.

I've tried several re-tunings of the carb screws, but to no avail.
Any time it does inconveniently shutdown in traffic, I have no trouble re-igniting it though.

It's just a **** nuisance.
WHen I drive it in any gear, it purrs like a kitten, so...

ANy thoughts?

Much appreciated

Maybe fuel filter or fuel pump?
