Cautionary note on door glass...

Post by hayesbd »

Don't know if anyone else has run into this issue, but I thought I'd post a warning. Last night, after a top-down ride home, I put the top up and did not notice that in doing so, the steel trim strip by the rear quarter window was pushed forward by the top's mechanism rubbing against it. This put it in the path of the door glass and when I shut the door, I shattered the window. So be sure to check each time you put the top up that these trim strips stay put.

Hope this prevents someone else from ruining a window...

I did this once about 6 months ago. I always double check now.

I have a similar problem with my convertible top,...and just on one side. Driver's side convertible top cable can catch on the rear edge of the rear quarter window trim strip and pull it forward as the top comes up. This places the trim strip in the direct path of the door and it will bend the trim strip if the door is closed.
Now when I raise the top, I make sure that the cable has cleared the trim strip. It's REALLY hard straightening that stainless steel trim!

Replacing the window may be a bit more difficult, though. I have straightened the trim strip okay, but now I am a little gun shy about replacing it. I thought about riveting it in place.
