I'm in the process of replacing the front pads on my '81 spider, and I noticed that one of the small springs on the pads that help keep them from knocking around is really mangled, so I ordered a front caliper parts kit from Beck & Arnley.
Well, the parts they sent me, which are all they list, are for '79 and older cars, which use a much larger retaining spring. I don't have a problem using them, as they are new, however I can't seem to figure out how they install on the pads.
Can anyone post a pic of their front caliper so I can see the pads and those springs? It should be a pre-1980 model, according to the FIAT parts book I saw.
Thanks,
-Tim
Front Brake pad installation ???
Re: Front Brake pad installation ???
there are two styles of springs, and they are interchangeable. One style goes on the end of the pad, the other goes underneath the pad. All they do is keep the pad from rattling around in the bracket and thus, squeaking when stopping
Re: Front Brake pad installation ???
Yeah, I recognize that, it's just not obvious how they longer springs fit on the pads.
I just ordered the correct replacement springs from Vick's, so it's now moot.

Re: Front Brake pad installation ???
they don't fit on the pads, they fit on the bracket and the pad sits on top of them
Re: Front Brake pad installation ???
Thanks.
I puzzled it out on my own, but I appreciate the effort.
I'm not a fan of the slop the pads have up and down, but so far they don't seem to make too much noise.

There's nothing to stop you using both types of clip, the small ones would stop any up and down movementTimmayy wrote:Thanks.

(not that it is ever a problem with these pads)
