Can anyone confirm that a stock camshaft for a 2 ltr '79 should be ~26.1 mm? I am working up how to compensate for a regrind cam's smaller base circle and that is the one number not in the factory repair manual. I worked backwards from Bayless cam data that the stocker should be 26.1 mm, sound correct? I also of course measured mine but it is always hard with just a digital caliper handy to be sure I'm not measuring the ramps and I didn't want to go to the trouble of reassembling everything to run a dial gauge over it. Looks like somewhere between 26.0 and 26.2mm.
Once I know that number as well as the regrind base I should be able to estimate the resulting change in clearance and then decide how much to close by deepening seats, versus milling the cam towers, versus no gaskets, versus thick shims, etc. I'd like to start with a seat grind that gives me pretty close to stock valve height since I don't want to have to shim springs to get the spring height correct.
Vandor or anyone, are the aftermarket big valves any longer then the stock valves?
