I have a fresh 1800 I just got going. It idles poorly, runs ok. I didn't rebuild the carb because it looked like it had been rebuilt.
If I put my hand over the carb top the motor smoothes out. Vacuum leak I'm guessing?
Question: when warm is the choke plate completely open at a 90° angle? If I partially close the choke it will also smooth out.
Question. I did not use new gaskets on the base.
Can I make my own with a sheet of gasket material?
Thanks in advance for insight.
a couple of ADFA questions.

yes you can make a base gasket. Your test indicates a lean condition; could be a vacuum leak or restricted idle circuit

Re: a couple of ADFA questions.
What about an idle stop solenoid that is bad?
I have three. Two are for 1800 ADFA they do not click when power is applied.
I have one that is for a 2L, it clicks when power it's supplied to it.
Are the two that do not click bad?

Yep, most likely. Put in the one that works, chances are you'll have to adjust the idle speed and idle air screw again. Check the jet isn't blocked while you have it out. When at operating temperature the choke flap should be close to vertical.TulsaSpider wrote:Are the two that do not click bad?
