Would this radio fit?

Post by scubachris »

Hey y'all,

I'm away from my 78 Fiat for about 1 more week and I need to know how big the opening for the radio is. Have a chance to get a pretty groovy period radio and want to make sure it fits. The radio measures 7 1/2" across X 3" high X 6 1/2" deep at case add 1" for face.

Thanks,
Chris

I think the key is the radio opening size in the console, which I measure as 7 and 3/8" max x 2" max. So looks like the one you are looking at is too big.

Awesome! Thanks for the help. I really wanted this but it looks like it won't fit.

Wow that just brought back some great memories of my younger years
Tx Chris

Had the exact same unit in my 75 Mustang.
It had to be mounted hanging under the dash, too big for in dash.
FM/cassette and no AM. Think I paid about $300 for it at the time and added a 100w, 6 band equalizer to it. I had matched it with 4 Pioneer speakers.
Figure the sound system was worth more than that "Charley's Angel" car

Great stereo...at the time.

Glad I could send you down the nostalgic road. Just think you could have made your money back if you kept the radio. I think I found a NOS Pioneer tape deck that will fit.

Made a decision on the radio. Bought a NOS Pioneer KP-8000 radio. Looking forward to getting back home next week and installed. Thinking of putting in headrest speakers.

I have one of those (Pioneer but different model) sitting on a hump mount out in my garage. It has an FM Stereo Transmitter added to it so you can plug it into the lighter socket and play tapes through any OEM FM radio. Made it easy to transfer between vehicles with no wiring required.

I didn't realize it was that valuable.
