Valve adjustment
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to set the valve shims on my 2litre engine, I have the tool which looks like a claw, but when I put it on the bucket with the cam lobe holding down what do I do to release the press and let the tool hold the bucket down. Should I turn the crank counter clock wise ? the head is on the engine and new timing belt on.

Re: Valve adjustment
Hi Dan thanks for the info. , I do not have the tool that looks like a wedge to compress the bucket, have only the claw tool.

Re: Valve adjustment
Also. If you are not using the factory made tool but a POS tool which was fabbed up by a welding shop, you will notice it won't fit around the distributor buldge. I shaved some metal off but it's still hard to use. I ended up using the SOHC tool on the #4 exhaust valve which may work just as well on all 8 valves.

Re: Valve adjustment
Dan what I did was turn the crankshaft via bolt in front clockwise until the cam lobe pushed the bucket down , then installed the claw tool , turned the crank clockwise until the lobe came off the bucket and the claw held the bucket at the right height to remove the shim . When done you just rotate the crank counterclockwise a little just enough to release the tool and done , on to next shim.
