Bumpers

Post by john3313 »

The pic of the Spider above on this site look as though it is missing at least the front bumper. It looks about the same year as mine (1980). Is it actually missing the front bumper, and why? Is this a common practice. It looks really good, by the way.

many of us like the look without bumpers. It's a good way to shed 150 lbs

The law says if you're issued two you have to have them both on. However, I've never seen them being too anal about it. I don't have mine on, mainly because there's no "factory" bracket for it. I'll bet more Spiders out here don't have the front one on than do.
Ron

PS: I did have mine zip-tied on for a couple days and it looked so Mickey Mouse I took it off.

Is that so the cameras can get you coming and going?

I've gotten a ticket while I was parked at school for no front plate... Thats what posessed me to put it on. :(

Ron, I don't know if you already know, but on the tube bumpers, on the left side rubber there are two screw holes for the plate. I met a guy that used to work for Fiat back when they still were sold in the US that showed me that.

I didn't know that. I'll have to look for them, wouldn't want a ticket on my spotless record. Yeah... right.

Good god people,

It looks like a car without a bumper. That's all it looks like. It wasn't styled that way and isn't supposed to run around that way.

Just an opinion. I'm seriously buying up all the bumpers in the world so when you all mature and want them back on the car I can charge several thousand (or million depending on the state of the dollar) dollars for them.

those double tube bumpers were designed to meet US bumper standards, nothing else. The early bumpers were designed for the car and look much better. I removed my bumpers because I wanted more of the race car look

It definitely gives the car a more sporty look. What about the front turn signals that are mounted on the bumper?

that's the $64,000 question. what to do about the lighting and the holes left behind.

those "square" holes are just the wrong size for nearly everything. and oval? yeash...
