One of Our Cousins - X 1/9 Abarth Rally Car

Post by Exit98 »

Just came across this article about the X 1/9 Abarth that was meant to replace the 124 Abarth Spider Rally Car but ended up having the rug pulled out at the last minute. Cool car though. One of them had a 210 HP engine. It must have wailed!

Agree way cool
Is that thingy on top an air-dam, periscope or a place to hold the big rubber band?

back in the late 70's you could order that snorkel from an outfit called FAZA..... an old guy named Al Cosentino if I remember. He also had a book as thick as a phone book with factoids and sketches. I still have the book ,which is dogeared and i still have the snorkel.... makes a X1/9 very distinctive.

The name of that book is "FAZA X1/9 - Strada- 128 Race world and repair manual" I read it cover to cover several times in my youth and dreamed of what could be........

I dug that book out of its hiding place and see where i paid 160 for the snorkel and 145 for their "hot" cam.....those were the days!

Yeah, I had that book too but it is long gone. Was a treasure of X1/9 mod stuff, and great pics of racing them!

Drove my '79 X1/9 from Cape Cod to San Francisco, down the West Coast and then back East. No problems, just one oil change and a new tire along the way. Man that was fun.
