Has anyone ever used the 3m sound deadening pads #08840 on their floor boards?

Re: 3M sound deadening pad
When i did my floor restoration i spent much of my time removing this tar-like layer from the floor boards with chisel and hammer. Any rust i found had developped underneath this type of product. (You can never prevent water/humidity from getting trapped under there if you have a spill) That work was so tedious in uncomfortable positions that i swore i would not want to do that again. I therefore lined the floor with aluminum-backed automotive insulation with the aluminum facing up and the jute facing down. In the event of water mishap or a dreaded heater core disaster i can now do a very simple clean up. Dry out the carpets, throw out the jute wash/wipe dry the floor and re-install without worry of trapped humidity.
In a perfect world we can always say that we'll drive in dry conditions and maintain our heater core/valve. Unfortunately our world is not always so perfect.
For me, the jute creates enough sound deadening effect. In any case i'm always driving top-down, no need to drown out sounds. But that's just me.

I used it on my '70. If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't use it. It offers 0 thermo protection. I used Thermo-Tec, http://www.amazon.com/Thermo-Tec-14100- ... thermo+tec (couldn't afford Dyna-Mat) over the 3M stuff and now no heat gets thru. I hope this helps.

Have you heard of a product called INSULADD? It's a ceramic product you add to paint. I tried it on my '80 Spider when I re-did the interior. It is made to be an insulator, and sound deadener. It's got all kinds of NASA,and other scientific testing on how efficient it is in reflecting heat, and as a deadener. I stumbled across it online, talked to the people at Insuladd, and they were very helpful! It comes in a bag,and you stir in to any paint,I used house paint. Roll it on the floorboards, let it dry. I was amazed how well it worked! I put 2 coats down, then new carpet. I was very happy with the results. Not very expensive, and I was impressed with all the testing that was done on the product.
