fuel check valve positioning on 78

I have a 78 that now has an electric fuel pump in the trunk to replace it's original mechanical.
My shop manual shows both check valves residing up near the carb, but that's when it has a mechanical pump at the engine block.
When I look at the 77 config which has a stock electric pump in the same place in the trunk, that check valve is in the trunk, before the pump.
I'm guessing that I install the check valve in trunk before the fuel pump. I know the second one resides on the return line up near the carb. Just looking for confirmation when using a facet pump in the trunk.
