I'm trying to adjust the clutch pedal on my 83.
Does this look right or does it need to be tightened more.

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
it all depends on feel, can you get the gear in and out easy while the clutch is depressed, is the friction point in a desirable position?
Cheers David

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
Factory spec is 25mm free play at the pedal.

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
Currently I'm about halfway along the threads to get the about 1" play at the top of the pedal.

25mm = 0.98425197 inches or about 1 inch of play.narfire wrote:Currently I'm about halfway along the threads to get the about 1" play at the top of the pedal.

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
The # of threads on the rod is irrelevant because the cable length varies by manufacturer. You simply need to be certain to have the 25mm / 1" of play inside the car from the rest position (up) to the beginning of engagement (pressing down).narfire wrote:Currently I'm about halfway along the threads to get the about 1" play at the top of the pedal.

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
When you referred to 'rest position' where exactly are you talking about? Are you talking about the clutch pedal or shifter? Or neither?bradartigue wrote:The # of threads on the rod is irrelevant because the cable length varies by manufacturer. Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
When the pedal is all the way up, you should have about an inch of travel down before you feel the resistance of the clutch. If you don't have a spring on the clutch lever at the gearbox end, the pedal may not return to the high position. If you don't have at least a small amount of freeplay, the throwout bearing is in constant contact with the fingers of the diaphragm spring, causing premature wear to both. Worst case scenario the diaphragm spring pushes the crankshaft forward causing premature wear of the crank thrust bearings.Odoyle wrote:When you referred to 'rest position' where exactly are you talking about? Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
Also, as the clutch wears, you have to adjust the play (or should anyway) which will make counting threads useless.bradartigue wrote:The # of threads on the rod is irrelevant because the cable length varies by manufacturer. Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
I have a question regarding the clutch on a 2017, Fiat 124. I test drove a Spider and loved it but the clutch seemed to have a lot of free play. In order to reach full engagement of the clutch I had to reach with my foot/leg to the point that I had to extend my hip a bit. I'm 5'9" so it shouldn't be an issue but it was hard to do. How much free play can I get if I adjust the clutch to make it a bit shorter?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Clutch Pedal Adjustment
That's going to be a completely different setup. Hydraulic, I would guess. And most likely self adjusting.
