Right now i'm looking for an inexpensive vinyl top, As we need to be able to occasionally park the car outside. But we may go canvas or change color later on so we don't want to spend any more than we have to on what might be temporary.
So our requirements are...
1) that it works
2) that its cheap(ish)
in that order.
i don't care how cheap it is if its crap.
So any experience you guys have with replacement tops, the companys that make them, or the companys that sell them would be a huge help. I'd like to have the top ordered by the end of the weekend. Let me know which ones to avoid at least.
Wasn't sure where to post about the tops...

The normal vendors are going to be $270-290 plus shipping. There's this one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fiat-124 ... enameZWDVW
Seller says it's new, never used, with shipping it's like $202. Black vinyl for the CS1 body.

Re: Vinyl Tops
wowzers. if you are gonna park it outside even overnight occasionally i would highly recommend a car cover as well.
ever see what small hail does to the top of a car?
and, if it is stored outside occasionally, i would not recommend the added expense of the canvas tops.

Re: Vinyl Tops
You might be better off with a secondhand hard top. Probably cheaper than a soft top and more weather resistant.

no good tops at the moment. I do like the World Upholstery tops at http://www.worlduph.com
Re: Vinyl Tops
I saw the guy on e-bay, Im watching it right now. May pull the trigger on it.
On the canvas top, i wouldn't get one till the Spider had a garage bay to itself (right after i finish my Ghia) and after i finish all the other cosmetics. But after thinking about it, i doubt ill go canvas even then since the only people who would see it would be visiting my garage. As it would be down anytime it left.
On the other hand in the interim i would definitely be interested in a second hand hard top... so if anyone sees one lying around...
Ill check word upholstery this afternoon.
Thanks everyone for their input.
You guys are cool.

Re: Vinyl Tops
Ok guys... Why not cloth if it's parked outside? Will it just rot?
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
Re: Vinyl Tops
I prefer the canvas tops. They are far superior in every way to a vinyl top. I think the recommendations against them would be the extra expense of the top and letting it sit out in the weather.
Re: Vinyl Tops
I bought a top from topsonline.com, an Ebay store. I bought the canvas haartz cloth, The top is great and was very easy to install. (my first time).
The top was under 300 bucks for the cloth and the vinyl tops are under 200.
Good luck
